The Excel4Pro consortium comprises 17 partners: four academic institutions, eight business ecosystems, two government agencies, and three social actors. This structure is well-balanced and fully embodies the four-way innovation spiral model.

Excel4Pro aims to support the potential of national centres of excellence in Turkey, Greece, and Ukraine as regional launchpads for the development of a new food economy based on plant protein. Building on research and knowledge exchange, Excel4Pro will act as a key tool to connect and scale up strategically selected plant protein ecosystems into a single, interconnected and cross-border hub of excellence aimed at stimulating the growth and transformation of the agri-food sector in Turkey, Greece and Ukraine and the development of innovative plant protein products.

Joint research and innovation strategies, mentoring programs, action plans to attract targeted investments, and a series of training activities for researchers and entrepreneurs will contribute to bridging the knowledge gaps between local innovation ecosystems and developing more sustainable food systems.

Work has now begun on mapping each ecosystem, including a SWOT analysis for each one.

Work has also begun on identifying and screening protein crops from Turkey, Greece, and Ukraine.

Participation in the Excel4Pro project will strengthen the role of the Lviv Polytechnic as a Hub for technology transfer and commercialization of scientific results in the field of agri-food innovations, and cooperation with partners from Turkey and Greece will allow attracting new business models, obtaining tools for scaling projects and promoting the creation of startups in the field of plant protein.

Participation in the project will also contribute to the implementation of research results in the real sector of the Ukrainian economy.

In turn, Lviv Polytechnic and its scientists have the opportunity to participate in international research and expand their research activities in the fields of food technologies, biotechnology, and agro-innovations.
